Arts and Public Life
Led by artist and professor Theaster Gates, the Arts and Public Life initiative is a multifaceted effort to strengthen the University’s connections with the civic, cultural, and artistic communities of Chicago’s South Side. It explores the ways art can drive neighborhood revitalization and cultural vitality in underinvested neighborhoods. By serving as a platform for ambitious artist-led projects and partnerships, innovative forms of public art and urban design, community dialogue, and place-based strategies, Arts and Public Life is helping to draw a more inclusive and connected map of Chicago’s South Side.
