Investing in artists
Artists stand at the heart of our mission. We invest in Chicago-based artists who through their practice are determined to engage the city: its people, its built environment, its government, and its economy. The dynamic range of artist-led projects results in rich community interactions. From youth to emerging and midcareer artists, our expanding network of participants is making its mark on the South Side, in the city, and beyond.
- Each year we award three to five residencies to emerging and midcareer Chicago-based artists, providing them with stipends, studio space, staff support, and access to a range of University resources.
- Through hands-on training in carpentry, landscaping, and design, our youth apprenticeship program helps develop the skills and confidence for creative self-expression.
- By offering funding in the form of commissions and grants, we boost the careers of artists while making investments in projects that have a targeted impact.
- The exhibitions program, based in the Arts Incubator’s gallery space, showcases the work of our resident artists and new exhibitions originated by guest curators.
