Creating a vibrant campus community
A great College requires not just great students but a vibrant community to support their development and to prepare them for academic, personal, and professional success. The College is committed to creating opportunities for students as they engage in a creative community of learning and socialize around their shared passion for the power of ideas.
The College Houses are key places where College traditions are built and sustained, and each residence hall provides rich opportunities for students to live, eat, study, and socialize together, laying the foundation for lifelong friendships among our alumni. With your generous support, the Campus North Residence Hall has brought even greater potential for these efforts when it opens in 2016.
Renowned Chicago architect Jeanne Gang, of Studio Gang Architects, designed Campus North around the College’s distinctive House culture. Each House has its own three-story lounge to foster relationships between housemates, and the dining commons, community courtyards, and top-floor reading rooms will facilitate interhouse connections. Building community through intentional architecture is a hallmark of the newest residence hall’s design.
Beyond the residence halls, your support provides students with opportunities to explore and bridge their many interests. The Dean’s Fund for Student Life is a critical vehicle that enables the longtime dean of the College to support a host of student initiatives each year. Student-organized activities—from the Model United Nations to Scav Hunt to University Theater—contribute to the rich texture of campus life. The Logan Center for the Arts provides a space to explore creative expression alongside academic inquiry, while Physical Education and Athletics, with 19 men’s and women’s varsity teams, promotes a holistic education through individual and team-based competition. The Offices of Multicultural Student Affairs and LGBTQ Student Life, and the Spiritual Life Office in Rockefeller Memorial Chapel foster a welcoming campus community that embraces the diversity of all who study, live, and work here.
By investing in a robust and engaged campus community, you enrich the lives of our students and contribute to a vibrant campus community that produces leaders in all fields—young people determined to have a positive impact locally and globally.
