Distinctive collections and global resources

Among the Library’s most distinctive holdings are its Special Collections of rare books, manuscripts, and archives in the Special Collections Research Center, as well as world renowned area studies collections focused on East Asia, Southern Asia, the Middle East, and Slavic and Eastern Europe. The Library has identified key funding opportunities to promote the maintenance and expansion of these invaluable collections.

The Library’s tradition of ambitious collection building will continue with the help of opportunity endowments to fund the purchase of unique items and rare collections that are offered for a limited time in the marketplace. In addition, the Library seeks endowment funds to support an increase in major digital initiatives, which will provide collections in formats that advance new types of scholarship and that ensure global accessibility and long-term preservation. In addition, a fund to support archival processing will ensure that the Library’s rapidly growing collection of manuscripts and archives can be made available in a timely manner for research and teaching.
