Kavli Foundation Challenge Grant
Capitalize on the opportunity of the Kavli Foundation Challenge Grant to advance cosmological physics through support for new technology and experiments
The Kavli Institute for Cosmological Physics (KICP) brings together cosmologists—astronomers working on the largest scales and physicists working on the smallest—to explore the origins of the universe and the laws that govern it. The Kavli Institute focuses on three fundamental questions:
- What is the nature of dark energy, the proposed cause of the universe’s accelerating expansion?
- Did the universe undergo an astonishingly rapid and enormous expansion called inflation in its earliest moments of existence and, if so, why and how?
- What do nature’s highest energy particles tell us about the theoretical unification of gravitational, electromagnetic, strong, and weak forces in the very early universe?
A strong, unrestricted endowment will allow the KICP to invest in promising but untested ideas, providing resources to refine hypotheses and experiments and build a solid proposal for government funding. In support of this investment, the Kavli Foundation, which has been the KICP’s primary supporter since 2004, has created a Challenge Grant, proposing a $4 million match if the University succeeds in raising $8 million. Your donation can help meet the terms of this Challenge Grant, creating an even greater impact and contributing to sustainable support for the KICP and its interdisciplinary research into the greatest mysteries of the Universe.
