Train young data scientists to tackle problems that matter: Data science for social good
The Eric & Wendy Schmidt Data Science for Social Good Summer Fellowship gives aspiring data scientists the opportunity to develop and work on data mining, machine learning, and analytics projects with social impact. Directed by Rayid Ghani, former chief data scientist for the Obama for America campaign, the 2013 inaugural program brought 36 fellows to Chicago from across the country. They worked with nonprofit, local government, and federal partners, including the Chicago Transit Authority, Mesa Public Schools, and NorthShore University HealthSystem. By the end of the summer, they had developed prototypes for reducing bus crowding, identifying students at risk of missing college opportunities, and predicting cardiac arrests in hospital patients. Imagine how much more they could accomplish year-round with your support.
