Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering
More effective cancer therapies with no side effects. Faster, more powerful, and less expensive computers and mobile devices. New and renewable sources of energy. Plentiful fresh, clean water where little or none exists. These are the goals. And when you design new medicines, materials, and technologies from the molecular level up, they are within reach.
Faculty and students at the University of Chicago have always taken on the tough questions, the biggest challenges, often leaping disciplinary boundaries to do so. And that is what they will continue to do—on an entirely new scale—at the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering, the University’s single most ambitious new initiative in science and technology.
The molecular scale, where lengths are measured in billionths of a meter, only came into view a few decades ago. Improvements in technology and our ability to see, control, and ultimately design at that level have led to significant advances in large-scale manufacturing. But the unique physical and chemical properties that exist at the molecular scale hold even greater and more meaningful promise. The University of Chicago created Pritzker Molecular Engineering to act on that promise.
PME combines diverse fields of expertise into an original approach to engineering research and education. Here, students will learn to look beyond narrow disciplines to create tools and technologies that address society’s most pressing needs. And the Institute’s faculty have already begun creating a platform for translating discoveries in physics, chemistry, and biology into innovative engineering solutions to the most important challenges of our time. They will not be incremental in their approach.
Your gift to Pritzker Molecular Engineering will drive the exploration that speeds molecular-level insights toward breakthroughs that improve human health, energy efficiency, the environment, and information technology. Your support will power an institute that, like the intriguing science it explores, possesses unique properties with the promise to change our world and enrich our lives.
The University of Chicago Campaign: Inquiry and Impact will raise $225 million to support initiatives through the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering.
