Education and public practice
The Smart Museum of Art offers a space for interpretation, critical examination of art and art practice, and the free and open exchange of ideas. All visitors are welcomed to the Smart and encouraged to identify with art in their own way, using their personal experiences and voices to find themselves within the art in the Museum’s galleries.
Collaborations with community organizations, local museums and schools, University of Chicago partners, and working artists allow the Smart to present a robust variety of onsite programs tailored to complement its exhibitions and collections, as well as customized in-school programs that are responsive to the needs of individual schools. From K–12 programming, to the incredibly impactful docent program, to the Interpreter in Residence, the Smart looks to create more equitable and diverse opportunities for future arts workers and arts appreciators alike.
Your support of Smart programming ensures the continued growth of diverse programming available to everyone, presented free of charge to all. You can help ensure the Smart’s reputation as a destination for those who seek deep encounters with art that inspires—and takes inspiration from—great ideas and makes those ideas and encounters accessible to each and every visitor.
