Provide flexible resources to support immediate and emerging priorities
The University of Chicago, and particularly the Physical Sciences Division, encourages, supports, and thrives on interdisciplinary research. However, pursuing new and often serendipitous research can be difficult within grant and other funding regulations. Unrestricted funds have strengthened the PSD by making such research possible, as well as faculty start-ups, core facilities improvements, and Centers development. This type of support provides faculty and Divisional leaders the freedom to follow the science wherever it leads.
