Batteries and electrical energy storage technologies power our homes, our cars, and our mobile devices. Electrical energy storage suffers from numerous limitations, including high cost and poor performance at high or low temperatures. Molecular engineering of new materials and structures is a promising route to solving these and other problems. IME’s participation in Argonne National Laboratory’s new battery research center will be critical to future advances. Together, IME and Argonne are in an excellent position to develop far more cost-effective and better-performing batteries and other methods of energy storage.
